Any information about this place would be appreciated. Would the weather be too harsh in January?

Thanks.

Wikitravel is, as usual, packed with information:

As the weather information there shows, the temperature in January, both day and night, is likely to remain below zero C.

The city's official tourism website is here:

I'd love to get there one day but I don't think it will be in January!

It can only be January, Chris. It's to see Andrea Bocelli.

The other options are:

Riga in January
Amsterdam in March
Antwerp in March
Kiev in May
Warsaw in August
Klagenflurt in September
Dublin in October

My birthday is in January and its not long to wait so I'm tempted to go January.
He's currently in the UK and he'll be back again next October. Paris in March or Tuscany in July would both be nice:

January average high minus 2, low minus 7, 11 days of rain and not too many sunshine hours. Amsterdam and Antwerp sound better bets.

Hi Chris. Ive excluded Paris on the basis that I've been twice and I don't fancy Tuscany.

I appreciate that the Baltics are freezing cold in January but I've been to NYC in Jan and experienced those temps before. Besides, people go there for the Christmas Markets! And the flights and hotels are ridiculously cheap.

Thanks both for your answers.

Thanks Chris :-)
It is worth remembering that in the UK the weather indoors reflects the weather outdoors. This does not happen in more advanced countries, of which Lithuania in winter is likely to be one: The indoors will likely be very pleasant, you dress for the outdoor weather whenever you go outdoors.
indeed, Karl, Bocelli's not going to be singing in below-zero temperatures.

Kiev in May is lovely...
jno - what did you like about it as regards going in May?
just mild and sunny, an attractive city, nice churches and monasteries, and walkable, though the street down to the river is steepish. Can't guarantee the weather, of course.
Any recommendations as to which area you stayed in?
anywhere near Khreschatyk, the main street, is handy. I was at the Rus, which is slightly further away than I would have preferred. This was about 10 years ago so it will no doubt all have changed a lot.
My inside weather doesn't reflect the outdoor weather. It's raining out at the moment.
