They plan to visit China later this year, flying initially from Dublin and returning there. What documents, if any, does she need, apart from the residency card and her passport, to enable her to return without any hassle?

Looks like the Irish immigration service has some good information: http://www.inis.gov.ie/en/INIS/Pages/visa-long-family-irish I could not find the specific information you need (nothing on UK residency for a Chinese citizen), but try contacting them here: Irish Naturalisation and Immigration Service Department of Justice and Equality 13-14...

Sandy - I have blurred vision today and thought that you have found yourself a Chinese wife and you were off to China to walk along the wall.

I hope all is well - haven't seen you around much lately.

I don't know- but lovely to see you, Sandy. I hope all is well xx
Can't assist Sandy, I hope you are happy and healthy .

Thank you all for your answers and good wishes.
I've been doing a lot of walking since I posted here about my first Camino. I've walked the length and breadth of Spain, covering more than 4200km .

Have you found what you are looking for?

Wolf63, not yet, unless it's the journey rather than the destination that I'm looking for.
Looks like she might need a re-entry visa.

However, note this from
http://www.inis.gov.ie/en/INIS/Pages/visa-long-family-irish

"If you plan to leave Ireland for a short period and then come back again, you must apply for a Re-entry Visa.

You must have a valid Irish Residence Permit (IRP) or GNIB card to apply for a Re-entry Visa.

If you leave without a Re-entry Visa, you will not be allowed back into the country. You will have to apply again for a full visa."
I think maybe you already have it sandy :-)
