I have recently moved to Japan and whilest here I intend to see as much of the country as possible. I have been through the "Lonely Planet" and "Rough Guide" books for ideas and while there are some great suggestions but because they are listed in these books means there will be too many foreigners at the sites!

Therefore, i wanted to ask if anyone knows of any places/sites/festivals etc... that are not listed in either of the above books that are well worth a visit.

It does not matter where in the country or any obstacles I may have to overcome as I am pretty resourceful.

Thanks in advance.
