My friend really wanted to drive round the USA, visiting all the musical centres for his 40th birthday. Unfortunately he had 2 kids instead and a BBQ.

However I think this is a fabulous idea, since I have always wanted to visit the USA. My question is- where should one go?

Obviously California where the west coast sound was created- but where else?

Nashville. Chicago. N'Orleans. Motown (Detroit). Branson (not so well known outside the USA, it's in Missouri).
The USA is a huge country.  Don't forget to take travelling times into account even if you fly from point to point.  There are also the different time zones to consider plus lower speed limits than we are used to in some areas.
Nashville for country, chicago and mississippi delta for blues, detroit for motown, harlem for soul, new orleans for jazz/blues/creole
