Why is it that when you go to the theatre the people who have seats in the centre of the row always take their seats last making everyone else in the row stand up.

That's a big rant, Tissy......and those who arrive after the performance has begun!!!

The odd unavoidable delay I could understand but too many do it for that to be the case.

Doing front of house I see little groups nattering and drinking who just won't be hurried up to take their seats.
I don't know why tissy but it always happens.Because of my disability I try to get a seat on the aisle where I can stretch my right leg and you can be certain that as soon as I get settled somebody comes along late and I have to move.
Tissy...you have reminded me of a when I was in the audience of a local Eisteddfod all winners show.
During the interval the Mayor and bigwigs went to their private room for drinks....too many I think.
The performance had restarted and was quite some time into a very quiet monologue when they noisily returned....so noisily the performer had to be stopped while they casually took their seats...laughing and not a bit bothered.
People still remember when Gness had had enough and silenced a theatre by giving the Mayor a telling off for his rudeness...
Or ..... Why is it that the people on the ends of the rows settle themselves so comfortably when they can see that there are still four seats empty in the middle of their row! Sorry Tissy, only messing!

Are you one of those who always turn up last maydup?

I thought I was the only one who noticed this - it happens so often, and they always go out in the interval when I don't and I have to get up again! Would love to have been a fly on the wall when you told the Mayor off gness, well done!!
I always thought that if the show had started, you wouldn't be let in until the interval ?
That's how it once was, Viv....now you wait until a suitable moment to cause the least disruption....unless you are the Mayor...☺
This also annoyingly happens at football matches.

Being tall I used to book a seat on the end of a row to give myself more legroom. Many times latecomers turn up as the game kicks off or even a few minutes into the game.

Same thing also tends to happen as half-time approaches when the same people who were late for the game leave their seats while the game is still going on so that they can get their half-time pie and cup tea

.......and guess what? Yes, they are again late returning to their seats as the second-half begins

Having that last G+T in the Bar I expect Tissy !
Not me Tissy, I'd die of embarrassment if I were late for the theatre. OH is the same and we both arrive everywhere at least half an hour early!

In our theatre we give the Mayor the three minute warning at the 10 minute call because the VIP groups are notoriously slow! And show wouldn't start until the bar and function room is clear as there is nothing worse than the great and the good disturbing the genuine theatregoers.
