You mean the rules are sexist ?
I have always used the VIP Lounges at Manchester Ringway and i would be disgusted to see people in holiday shorts.

However, different era, different people, i would have thought that clean holiday shorts of reasonable length would be acceptable.
Can't believe that jrtv, people often travel back to UK in shorts from holiday destinations, they have to wait ages in the heat to board homeward bound planes. When did that rule come in?
Ann....if you are travelling BACK to the UK, you wouldn't be using the VIP lounges in Manchester.
My grandson arrived this afternoon from Sweden via Manchester airport and he was wearing shorts.
Poster didn't say VIP lounge - I thought he meant the departure/arrivals lounges ......... my mistake!
You mean you don't travel on holiday dressed like this jrtv?

No thats Sqad off on his hols!! LOL@Boo .......
I don't want to see beer bellies hanging over shorts and flip flops anywhere except the beach !
Ann....no he didn't, but i assumed that it was the VIP lounge as everybody and their uncles are in the departure lounge, drinking beer and wearing shorts.

Sorry should have said the VIP Lounges that you have to pay to go in, this is from there web page ...Smart casual dress at all times (no shorts, vests, baseball caps or football shirts allowed) - I just wondered how strict they are with the rules.
Boo...very good!
Some shorts can be very smart indeed. Perhaps zip-leg trousers would be the answer, you can unzip when you get on the plane :-)
Well all joking aside here, but if you're paying the extra to go VIP, you might as well dress the part too. No?
It never ceases to amaze me how appallingly some people dress when travelling aboard an aircraft. (Well actually that’s wrong. Nothing much amazes me these days). Shorts, in my view, should be absolutely forbidden for men when travelling and those worn by women should be tailored and reach no less than two inches above the knee.

The state some people are in when they board an aircraft to return home is absolutely disgusting. There is no need to wear beach attire at airports. Almost all of the buildings are air conditioned these days as are the vehicles in which they travel. Even if they were not, a bit of warm weather is no excuse to dress inappropriately. As well as this, the problem with the amount of clothing they have to take into the cabin with them and the concomitant scrum for the toilets to change when the aircraft reaches twenty minutes from home simply adds to the bad experience.

As for the premium lounges at airports, I never use them. My experience of them is that you are very little better off by using them. You are still exposed to people who believe that five pints of lager an hour at 6am is a suitable beverage; you are still surrounded by children playing football in the seating areas. You get all these delights in the normal lounges for free so there’s little point in paying for them.

That hasn't been my experience in the VIP lounges at Manchester Airport.
Wowsee...i've used the business class (it's not VIP) lounge before but I certainly wouldn't again :)

I'll stick to mixing with the hoi polloi any day !!

People work hard for their holidays, I certainly don't leave my scorching hot departure in jeans and a sweatshirt, how snobby lol !!!
The Concorde lounge in JFK was quite nice!
I went to St Lucia with a friend who goes there quite a bit and can use the Virgin lounge there. She wanted to drag me into the lounge but I would have preferred to sit in the main terminal, peoplewatching. The lounge was pokey, the food was uninteresting, there were kids crawling over my baggage because of the lack of room and then she had the nerve to ask me for the money for going in there. A waste of money.
How funny that wearing jeans and a sweatshirt could be considered snobby
