There's lots of car hire easily available, but I'd advise you to take one of the flights on offer from the local airport which fly you over the Hoover Dam, and give a magnificent aerial view of the Grand Canyon - and land giving you time to see the scenery at close quarters. There are also accompanied trips available if you'd prefer that. Whatever you decide, it's magnificent! Enjoy!
I used Alamo- the car choice was good- they directed me to a car park and said 'take your pick'.
I agree. Alamo is good. We've used them.
Google maps shows it is about 300 miles (over 4 hour drive) from Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon (distance can very depending on whereabouts in the canyon you go).

So that is a 600 mile round trip. Over 8 hours driving (there and back) according to Google Maps.

I have never been to Las Vegas but I am sure there are plenty of organized trips to the canyon (by coach, helicopter, aeroplane etc.)
Question from 2011 where someone asked the same question. Quite a few answers

Going to see the Grand Canyon on a day trip from Vegas would be like staying in a hotel Newcastle upon Tyne and wanting to see the Tower of London !

There are plenty of ways to see the Canyon by 'plane, rather than spending a whole day in a rental car...its just plain daft to drive !

However, there are plenty of places to drive to from Vegas, without hours behind the wheel. Vegas is all very well but it would a terrible shame if you didn't take the opportunity to see the countryside around while you are there. Anyway, Vegas can be a bit much after a day of two, as it is "in your face" so to speak. Day or night its impossible to get away from the noise and clamour. Go and see the Hoover Dam...well worth it and you can drive around Lake Mead on the way back :::

The Hoover Dam is amazing. You can go right down inside it and come out at the bottom. Its has to be one of the Wonders of the Modern World ::

See the Valley of Fire State Park while you are there as well :::

Look at the colour of those rocks !

I wish I was going with you as its been 20 years since I was last there and its unlikely that I will ever go again now. Amazing place.
One word - don't!!

You can get a fantastic range of trips from Viator.com, that will give you everything you ever wanted in a trip to the Grand Canyon.

The one we did was $300 and we had a coach ride to airport then on a small plane to the Grand Canyon, then a helicopter down into the canyon itself and then on a boat down the river.

The helicopter then took us back up and to a picnic, before the place took us back to the coach who dropped us off at the hotel.

We were exhausted - if you drove in a car you would not see half of what we did.
