In Australia what is the name for a long narrow lake,

I think it may be billabong but can anyone please confirm.

That probably fits, since a billabong is a body of water formed when an oxbow of a river is cut off and becomes independant of the river.  So, it could be a long narrow lake; from Aboriginal words billa = creek and bong = dead.  Imortalized in Waltzing Matilda as where the jolly swagman camped...  (Source: Australian Explorer)

A dead-end channel extending from the main stream of a river.
A streambed filled with water only in the rainy season.
A stagnant pool or backwater.
