Has anybody been?
We are looking at a couple of hotels on this Island for feb/march 2014 but I dont know anybody that has been. The reviews and pictures look amazing. I have never travelled to this part of the world.

Yes, I have. It's a lovely Island. Great for snorkelling. Also go up the view point. It's a bit of a trek up but the views are stunning.
Also, not too far is little Phi Phi. It's not inhabited beside one hut which is used to sell drinks and things to the tourists.

I got stranded on that island overnight because of a storm.

Where did you stay ummmm? We are looking at the Holiday Inn resort in particular.
We slummed it and stayed in one of the huts just off the beach. £2.50 a night. From Phi Phi we went to Krabi where we stayed in a nicer hotel.
Question Author
I would be happy to slum about a bit and then perhaps find a nice hotel, as you have mentioned. The mrs on the other hand...... nah never going to happen! But thanks for the tips, we are 90% going to commit to the destination, hopefully making a booking after Christmas
The huts were fine. Had everything you needed but I would prefer a nice hotel.

The island is only small...

How long to you intend going for? We went for three weeks and managed to fit in Bangkok, Caron, Phuket, Phi Phi and Krabi.
I always get jealous when someone books Thailand, it's so beautiful and the people are just lovely. I think Divegirl went to Phi Phi islands earlier this year, she might be on later.

Currently the plan is 2 weeks and staying on Phi Phi for the duration but we will be researching day trips and places of interest whilst we are there.
The only thing we booked was a hotel in Bangkok for 1 night...the rest of the holiday we organised as we went.

You'll love it either way. Like Rocky says, the people are lovely. Phi Phi is very touristy.
No, I went to Koh Samui and Bangkok but can not recommend Thailand enough! I absolutely loved it out there and can't wait to go back. Phi Phi and Krabi are on my to do list for sure.

Going off to sulk now as I can't even contemplate another holiday for ages yet :0(

Krabi is more Thai than Phi Phi.

I like a good balance of touristy areas including familiar comforts with the "real" country. I am not one for sitting by a pool admiring the view (although the view does look amazing). I get too restless and like to explore. All things considerred this destination looks great. Unlike I wouldnt leave that much to chance re accomodation but I can appreciate the appeal and potential savings if done "on the go".
Price wise, the hotels are substantially cheaper than the popular Carribean and Indian Ocean destinations, its hard to find a fault especially with such good reviews!
Off to Thailand in February, my Son lives and works out there teaching English. We always arrange the accommodation on the go, except for the first night.

We are heading towards Koh Lanta this time, which is not far from Phi Phi Island.

If you are doing it 'on the go' you will have to book your flights very soon. We booked ours a few weeks ago and even then they were starting to get scarce.

Best of Luck and don't forget the Sun Tan Lotion!
