Hi, A relative of mine will be driving to Romania next month and I wonder if anyone has suggestions as to the best route. I know there may be quicker / safer routes to travel, also that there might be better border crossings to go through. Any tips would be useful.
Thanks.

define Best sanden - safest, sightseeing - there are no border crossings between here and Romania any more, it's all EU.

Safest and hopefully quickest. They will have one of two overnight stops along the way but not for sightseeing.
OH drives a truck in Europe - he suggests

Drive to middle of Germany - Stuttgart area (overnight stop)
Stuttgart - Debrecen in Hungary (overnight stop)
then go via Sofia in Bulgaria

then.... which bit of Romania is he going to?

It's a long way, too much to do with only 1 stop, 3 would be better.

Thanks Boxtops - I am not sure exactly where they are heading to but I am meeting up at the weekend to help look for overnight stop hotels. Sorry my last posting said one or two stops but I meant two or three.
Thats a great help.
No problem, OH is around if there are any questions!

Boxtops - I just looked at a map and can follow it to Debrecen, but not sure why you would go to Sofia after that? It looks too far south. I know I dont know the exact destination but I cant see that Sofia would be en route. Is that correct Boxtops?
sanden, I'll put you on to nibble (my OH) - he'll steer you.
Nibble apologises, he sent you the wrong way :-)

Day 2 should be Stuttgart to the Budapest area
Day 3 should be Budapest to Szeged through Timisoroara (which is in Romania) - this is a faster road than going via Debrecen

Thanks for your help.
PS he says that Szeged is signposted all the way from the Austrian border

Nibble - thanks for your help.
sanden, I'll subscribe to this post in case you want to come back with any questions when you've met up with your friend

OK thank you both for the help.
Go to google maps, put in where in Romania your relative is driving too, then go to get directions, and put in your relatives home address. Bingo.
