I have two rings which used to belong to my mother. They were last valued in August 1978 for £350 & £650. Would some clever person give me a ballpark figure of the current insurance value and retail value. I want to sell them but I need the above so I can insure them while in transit to the auctioneers. Thanks in advance.

In hindsight this question may not belong here my apologies if it should be somewhere else
Yeah, the first one is worth £450,000 and the 2nd around about £34.60p l
hindsight has nowt to do with it

How can anyone give you an estimate with no details at all?
My aunts ring was valued at £1200 3 years ago, but it isn't worth that now
Check with your household insurance company - your policy may cover the situation you mention. You might already have high value personal items detailed on your policy and if so look to see what that covers.
you haven't even said what the rings are made of!
One meeeeelion dollars!
If the rings are made of gold, this may give an indication:

Gold prices are approximately 6 times the August 1978 value.
However a ring's value is usually worth more than it's pure gold content depending on it's condition, whether the style is in fashion, etc. It is very hard to judge the current value based on this information but I suggest that for insurance purposes you should assume values approaching £1500 and £3000. In terms of true resale value, I know very little but I would expect the true resale values to be lower than this.

Thank you all
Many high street jewellers offer free valuations so might be worth giving them a call?
