Grr posted this yesterday! question went missing?

Is it significantly cheaper to book a holiday on line?  It seems like a lot of hassle to book on the net. It seems easier to just nip into a travel agent? Also is it dearer for trave insurance if you are pregnant?
Many thanks

It's no more hassle to book on line than it is to sit with some moron in the travel agent who wants to get back to filing her nails. (Sorry about the moan - had a bad experience). I checked out a few of the major operators and they all seemed to offer discounts for booking on line. This year I am going with Direct Holidays. The holiday I wanted was cheaper than other firms (e.g. Thomas Cook) and they offered me 20 off for booking on line. It might not seem much of a saving but I equated it to 4 large bacardi & cokes! A friend of mine couldn't get insurance to travel in the 1st 3 months of pregnancy (she was a bit naughty and went to a different insurance company & didn't tell them she was expecting.) If you are travelling in the middle months of pregnancy you shouldn't have a problem. No -one will insure you for the last few weeks of pregnancy. I recommend travel insurance from The Post Office.

Real savings are made when you piece together your own holiday i.e. find your accomodation, then your flights, then organise a transfer from the airport or hire a car.

But you have to do the work to dig out the cheap properties.

Tour companies do all that for you but you pay a premium for this.  An "online discount" is low in value cos all you are saving them is the cost of the "assistant" in the shop as shes only doing what you could easily do from home.

If you are happy being herded around like cattle and doing what your holiday rep tells you to, then a travel company is for you.

If you want more for your money and are prepared to do a little bit of PC work then heres a few sites to get you started
