Hi, Just wondered if anyone had any idea how much things cost in Hungary?
We're going to Budapest in December and I wondered how much meals, drinks etc cost? We have booked the accomodation already.
Is travel inexpensive?
thanks in advance

I have not been there for several years, but when I was there, food and drinks were very reasonable. However, the cost of everything has gone up over the past several years. You can ususally tell how food etc will be priced by the cost of rooms. If you accomodations were still relatevely inexpensive then your food should be also. If the cost of hotels etc have increased then the food probably has also. The last time I was there you could still get a B&B right down town for less then 35 E a night and a full dinner was around 6 E and lunch was 2or3 E and breakfast was included at the B&B. Drinks were 1 or 2 E and the turkish baths were 8 E.
The bus systen is pretty good and the metro also. I think the price was about average for most European countries.
I was there in summer of 2006, and prices were very reasonable then, especially things like the tram system / underground. As with any capital city, watch your change and your belongings. Prior to our visit I saw several warnings online about short-changing being routine, but have to say did not experience this, similarly agressive begging was being flagged up, but I didn't see any. I think the biggest tourist scam is young men being lured into nightclubs by hostesses and charged zillions for a beer.Other than that the peple seemed urbane and polite.
