What is the correct pronunciation of Bury in Greater Manchester? I say " Berry" my friends say it rhyms with "Hurry" I should know I was stationed with the Lancashire Fusiliers many years ago but they dont believe me.

Well unless your friends are from the area (and it's a local dialect pronunciation) then you are right and they are wrong.

Even if they are from the area I'd guess they are having you on anyway....
I have heard it pronounced both ways, but I wouldn't say it was worth falling out over - I say Bath, some people say Barth when we both mean the same place!
btw I say Berry.
