Its mine and my husbands 2nd wedding anniversary in September. I want to do something special for him and surprise him with a weekend away. Can anyone recommend a really plush hotel in the south/south west? Or any activity ideas?

Thanks

Thanks. I'll check all these out!
How about a mini-cruise on either P&O ferries from Portsmouth to Bilbao in Spain or Brittany ferries from Plymouth to Santander?
Im a hopeless romanticist. Being so has its ups and downs. But my wife says Ive excelled beyond anyones wildest imagination with some of the ideas Ive come up with over the years, all surprises for her never knowing when, what, or where. In fact, the last trip was to the Ritz in Paris. She thought we were going to have a meal near the London Eye. Instead, I whisked her onto Eurostar for a three day excursion.

But the ultimate. short-break which I have dubbed as the have I told you lately that I love you surprises was on the Orient Express. She thought we were going shopping in Croydon(as if!)..and when we got to Victoria Station I mentioned Oh Look, theres the Orient Express! Do you mind if we have a look? As I offered her my hand to step into the vestibule of the train, she said I dont think we should be doing this, we might get in trouble. I told her wed just have a brief peek then hop off. Someone immediately came up to us to ask if they could help. I then told the porter that we had reservations for our trip and pulled out the tickets.

My wife made me promise that we would never-ever do this trip again, because at no time could any trip be any more perfect! We did the champagne brunch trip to Bristol for the day, holding hands as we browsed antique shops, then a leisurely dinner on the way home. I booked a suite at the Covent Garden Hotel on Monmouth street and the following day we had a lovely luncheon at Mon Plasir, the famous French restaurant, directly across from the hotel. We even had time to get massages at Neils Yard, just on the other side of Monmouth. Continued on Part 2

Personally, I prefer the VSOE between Paris and Bucharest. I work in Romania and Moldova, so often, when I am in the most desperate need of a break, I take the train from London, then connect to VSOE to Bucharest. Of course, you can shorten it with destinations to Vienna, Venice, or Budapest. I wish you a wonderful Journey! Fr. Bill
