Help My 2 year old grand-daughter is driving me mad trying to help me fix my microphone.

When we record a nursary rhyme for example using Audiocity, on playback we get this deep buzzing sound and you can hardly hear the song.

I have tried MS help and it suggests going to control panel, Speech, and select speech recognition tab, which I don't have although I'm using XP edition.

Any thoughts are welcome. thank you

its very possible that you are using the wrong microphone or the mic is not plugged in all the way. microphones come in stereo and monoral, the stereo ones have a 3 section plug and monorals have a two section plug. im sure you need stereo. if you look at the plug you will see what im talking about. there will be a longer section closest to the cord and either one or two more toward the tip and they are only seperated by a small ring. hope this helps you.

not that peanut. it worked before and it is still plugged in securely to the same plughole
It might be a problem with your speakers rather than the mike. If the speakers or cables are not of the shielded type, various things can cause interference, the symptoms of which are usually a loud buzzing sound. Have you moved the speakers themselves too near the monitor or placed any electrical items such as a cordless or mobile phone too near the speakers. Re-routing the cables away from any extraneous source can often solve it.
