If I give my old Sky+ box to my parents, will they be able to use it as a freeview box without a card?

I think so, my grandparents did that and it worked fine, best way to find out though, try it and see.
I may be wrong, but I don't think a Sky box will work without a card.
you have to pay £25 for a card direct from sky to receive even the free channels,
Your old Sky+ box will pick up Skysat ( freesat not freeview ) but your parents will need a satellite dish installed. Also I recently cancelled my Sky contract & am receiving Freesat & using the Skycard that's in the Sky+H/D box ( & getting excellent freesat H/D signals)
None of the PVR features will work without a sky subscription though.

Thanks to all. I presume PVR means play view and record?
That's a good attempt at it, well thought out :) it's actually personal video recorder (though I guess strictly I should have said DVR, or digital video recorder)
Chuck is correct, none of the hard drive facilities work, I'm having to select 1 channel on the box & record on my dvd recorder
1 channel at a time
