Opening the lid on a laptop!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh dear, I know this is a daft question, but I bought a refurbished HP Pavilion laptop today and I simply cant lift the lid. Anyone got one of these that could help please. I shall feel so stupid tomorrow going back to the shop. They obviously dont slide across as there is nowhere for them to slide to and if I press up there is a click but it wont open. Thanks

HP latches normally slide to the right.

according to son who knows everything(hm hm)there is some sort of catch thing at the front that slides to one side

I don;t think it has a latch as such, does it not just close flat and stay closed until you lift the top up?

I have an HP Pavilion, which has no catch (as my friend Dotty says), but my previous HP Pavilion did and I think (as my friend Chuck says) there was a little catch that slid to the right.

Thanks folks managed to do it this morning after pulling my hair out. It was stuck I think.
