My Epson printer is just a few months old. The first set of inks I used were compatibles and they were ok. Just three weeks ago i put the Epson inks in and have printed very little with them, now it is telling me to replace inks and the printed material coming out is very faint, but there is no way that the inks are used up, help appreciated

The heads may have dried, try a clean if your printer has a setting for one.

madmaggot, thanks for your prompt reply will try to clean the heads!
I , too, have a 415 to succeed my 200. I've had it a few weeks and still on the original inks. I was using compatibles in my 200 which gave me a few problems so I have decided to use genuines for the 415. I found a better price for them through Amazon yesterday, from 'modern ape' , a pack of four for £23.33 inc. p&p. When I haven't used a printer for a while I print out a small coloured paper or advert every now and again. It doesn't use very much ink .
I've discovered that there is something about the SX415 that makes it really not like compatibles - particularly black! I'm now on my replacement SX415 from Epson due to blocked print heads thanks to compatible cartridges. The replacement printer suffered the same problem after a while of not printing anything in black. Repeated head cleaning is useless and damages the heads so DON'T DO IT! As a last resort, I purchased a genuine black (CHEETAH) and the problem was resolved instantly. Fingers crossed and the printer is working perfectly. 'MONKEY' black cartridges are cheaper but contain less ink so keep that in mind when you see a great deals on genuine inks! To conclude, it seems that technology has caught up with the compatible reign and manufacturers like Epson are clawing back some money. I was one day away from getting a Kodak and their well advertised, cheaper genuine cartridges.
Me again - to to clarify something. I am still using compatible colours as they seem to be ok at the moment but I had a whole load of trouble with compatible black. Print quality was appalling to the point where a whole page of printed text would be little more than a few lines and squiggles. Genuine Epson inks contain an anti-coagulent which stops the heads getting blocked. I can't explain why it was only the black I had problems with but I'm just glad I've got it working again.
