Install the sond card/sound device drivers from 1. The motherboard support disc .. or 2. Download them from the motherboard manufacturers website.
You may also need to install the wireless card drivers .. you should have on disc .. but can be downloaded also. Check in Device Manager for details of the card(s) if you do not know, or cannot physically check them.
You probably need to go to the product support section of the (laptop) manufacturer's website and start collecting/installing the drivers.
After install, reboot and they should be listed in Device manager as recognised and functioning normally. Then go to sounds and audio devices in Control Panel and switch on icon to sys tray. Other settings there too.
While you are at it you probably want to also get at least the...

Chipset drivers
VGA (graphics) drivers
Network card (wired) drivers
Modem drivers (if fitted)

And also any others drivers for hardware your laptop may have fitted, such as bluetooth modules etc.

Check the device manager, you should have no red crosses or yellow exclamation marks at all.
