No, in fact it gets lighter. When an HDD works it gets warm/hot. To create heat you need friction which causes wear.

I have an old computer from 2002 that has had heavy usage. When I bring that out of the cupboard I need to tie the thing down because the HDD is so light now that it makes the whole computer float. Honest!
