Through conversations with two friends (neither of whom know each other I should add), it would appear that I have been impersonated on Facebook. I have never used this site in my life, yet both girls tell me that I'm there, with various mentions about things that only I would know.

Can someone please advise me how I can go about dealing with this? I really don't want to get involved with Facebook and am cross that someone has done this.

Hope to hear from you soon, many thanks,

Chox.

You can ask your friends who have got facebook to report the profile, but they may not act on it

The following is taken from facebook with regards to imposters

"If someone has created an account to impersonate or imitate you, please go to the impostor profile and click "Report/block this person" at the bottom of the left column. Check the "Report this Person" box, choose "Fake Profile" as the reason, and add "Impersonating me or someone else" as the report type. Be sure to add a valid web address (URL) leading to the real profile so that we can review the information."

(incidentally. how did somebody else post information that only you know, surely the fact they have posted it means it's not only you that knows it?)
chuck your explanation wouldn't work, it says provide a link to the real persons profile, but chokkie hasn't got and doesn't want facebook.
Read it again molly.

Try reading the first sentence again...

The bit that says "You can ask your friends who have got facebook to report the profile"
But there's no link to give and asking your friends may not work . . . .

Hi guys, thanks for this advice. I've logged in etc, but can't seem to manage to do this myself, so I am asking one of the friends who told me about this, to see if she can sort it for me. Let's hope she can sort it out. Not terribly up to speed with all this, so finding it a bit difficult - not to mention frustrating and irritating!
if its things only you would know, how does the impostor know them??

You know what, I just don't know. Maybe one day many moons ago, I did register, but would have unregistered as soon as I realised what was entailed. And perhaps that didn't work properly. The fact of the matter remains - I just want out and don't know what to do. Helllllp!

Just speaking to another friend about all this stuff ... is there a chance it could have been picked up from google - if you google my name there's a load of stuff that I've done - letters to newspapers, etc. Wotcha reckon?

Its possible chokkie, if you have found stuff then so can others. I have heard its very difficult to bail out of FB, but don't know how true that is.
chokkie try and sign in...ask them to reset your password, if y=they do they you will know it was still you on there and can leave again
Reas should be READ. Ron.
