Any reason why my laptop is now making a rachet noise??

i originally it was the builders outside, but they´ve left hours ago. the noise actually puts me in mind of the toy car you had when you were very small, and you´d hold it in yr hand and run the wheels against the floor, and the wheels usually made this sound like wheels rotating on their own from a toy car

Maybe the fan rubbing against something?
there are 3 moving parts in most laptops....

Fan: something might have poked into one of the air vents and be catching on the fan, check in the vents with a torch and see if you can see anything.

CD/DVD drive: they can make a lot of noise with certain (slightly out of balance) disks in them, remove anything from the CD drive

Harddrive: you really want to hope it's not this!
it's trying to communicate with you in the only way it knows how
Is the CD/DVD drive a Liteon, by any chance?
