Drive Genius, Tech Tool, Stellar Phoenix etc

I have used these various softwares to recover files and drives in the past and they worked very well. THe latest version of Drive Genius has installed a menu item, which on start up is now telling me my drive needs to be de fragged. As far as I'm concerned OS X Snow Leopard does not really need to do this, and I have not seen ay significant drop in speed on my Mac. Has any one had experience with this?
