About a week ago everything froze on my computer. I mean everything. The only way out was to cut the power. I left it turned off all day. Hit the power and it appeared to be okay. Today it happened again. Does anyone have any ideas as to what is happening. I would be grateful. Is my computer on it's way to computer heaven in the sky.

Difficult to tell with such little information... All computers running Windows have a tendency to accumulate problems over time due to unnecessary software being installed, the Registry becoming corrupt etc, and sometimes all that is required is to back your data up, format the hard disk and reinstall everything.

That said, these machines really do not last forever...
I was having the same problem with my laptop (which then led to all sorts of other problems). It's still not working properly, but I think I got the freezing thing sorted - I downloaded Eusing free registry cleaner and it has stopped freezing and goes a lot quicker now too. I mucked about with it so much before discovering this that I've gubbed my internet though :(
More often than not, these Registry "cleaners" can actually make things worse. I'd never recommend using one...

Thankyou both for the information. Especially to Mark for the correction in my punctuation. Where would us illiterates be without you.
Sometimes with a lockup you can exit from a task by pressing ALT,CTRL. and DEL keys together and cancel the program running.
They are quite probably overheating. Clean out the grilles and vents.
Open up and clean out properly if you can.

Nothing wrong with a decent REG cleaner .. It's the people that use them and don't know what they are doing that screw up the PC.
Start, Run, msconfig. Check what is starting up by looking at the Startup tab. Search for each process on the net to see if it can be disabled.
