Soundbar instead of 2.1 surround system

Does anyone have experience of soundbars. I think this would be my best option as I really do not want wires everywhere and my main objective is to improve the quality of the sound on my sony tv.

Can anyone recommend a good one, have been looking at the new yamaha which is around £400.00.
