i've put some films onto a pendrive to watch on my eMac, no problem there, as i've downloaded "vlc " so i thought i'd give my girlfriend a nice surprise and give her some of my films on a dvd. would you beleive it, the eMac refuses to recognise the dvd!! i've ejected it, put it back in, and still nothing.
any suggestions

Does your optical drive recognise CDs?
Question Author

thanx in advance

Just put it in the drive and see if it either starts iTunes or appears in the Finder.
Does your DVD appear in the Finder?
Question Author
hi milvus. every time i put the dvd into the dvd/cd drive, i get a window giving me 3 options.. 1. create a new project, 2. open an existing project, 3. one step dvd

You started this thread saying your eMac wasn't recognising the DVD but obviously it does. It is starting iMovie because you have put in a blank DVD and it is asking you which of the movie production option you want to choose. So your optical drive is working fine. As to the second part of what you want to do, make copies of films, I suspect these are commercial movies and I'm not going to tell you how to pirate movies

milvus, where in my thread did i say i was pirating films?? i´ve just looked, what i did do was to copy some of my original dvds onto a blank dvd to give to my g´friend, surely this is quite legal??
i´ve also tried to play one of these original dvds without any success
Question Author
apologies, i´ve just re´read my original thread, and it does say i had downloaded soe films, and used vlc. yes this is true. as its quite the norm in spain. but what i did try to do also, which is well above board, was to burn some of my english dvds which were bought ages ago to give to my g´friend, as i said b4, my eMac still wont recognise ém
copying DVD's to give to your girlfriend is copyright infringement.

There was one copy, there would be two copies if you were to copy them and giving them to somebody else negates any possibility you could say they are backups for personal use.
Thanks for the assist Chuck

anybody would think i was a big time crook judging by your reactions. i can only imagine you´ve both reacted this way, cuz you beleive that another ab will read this thread and earn free advice on how to pirate dvd´s. as i will not, cuz i dont need to. luckily i´ve found a solution.
I work in the software business and every time someone pirates our software we lose income, as income drops we start losing jobs. When redundancies start families suffer, because people like you think it is OK to steal. If you want to be romantic nd surprise your girlfriend try spending some money, not stealing
