I am going to replace my CD writer, and I'm thinking about having one that reads DVD's as well. Does anyone have any experience of these - are they reliable, and worth the money, or should I go for CD / DVD writer instead? Any opinions gratefully received.

At the moment I have a drive which burns CDs and reads DVDs which (some time ago) I paid about 100 for. I'm kinda happy with it but it is quite slow by today's standards.
DVD writers these days cost only 50 or so - I'd opt for one of those if I was buying one.
Remember that if a DVD drive is quoted as saying that it burns DVDs at one speed, then it burns CDs much faster than this : one highly rated model (LG's GSA4160B is on PC Pro's recommended list) burns DVD+R at 16x and CDs at 40x speed.
Go for the DVD RW.I recently purchased a beautiful looking external dual layer DVD RW with a RW speed of x 16,and I am delighted with it.I bought it from Ebay and it cost me 80.I am pretty sure you could buy decent internal one for about 50.
