i am able to connect to a wireless connection for free, its labled as "scrap" and is not password protected,
is it ilegal to use this and what damage can be done to my pc?

I thought using someone else's woreless connection was a legal grey area ? Bit like saying it is ok to enter someone's place and take what you like because it is their responsibility to close and lock the front door.

Using somebody else wi-fi without their permission is illegal, you can be prosecuted for it
