Battery charging

I have my laptop plugged into the mains for over an hour now, When I check the battery it says plugged in charging, 1% It has not moved from 1%
Does this mean that the battery is dead?

possibly, or it could have just been really really dead.

Leave it over night, if it's still not got a charge then is fairly certain it's dead.

if your frequently insert & remove the charger cable it will help boost the charge, if the battery isn't knackered.
If your battery has definitely died you may want to google if yours is able to be 'cracked' - opened up. You can buy some good quality cells and renew the battery to as good as new (or better) for 1/3rd of the price of a new one. Some soldering and common sense required.
