I don't know about automatically but you can defrag by selecting All Programmes, Accessories, System Tools, Disk Defragmenter.

You are probably using the default one that came with XP.

You might consider purchasing a commercial defrag programme that giives additional options, such as runinng in the background at all times (if you have enough PC resources to cope with another background application that is).

I'm unsure if the default XP defrag can be run "automatically". Personally I'd rather kick a defrag off to run overnight, every now and again.
