I received the MS message about alternatives to their service about 4 days ago. Not having heard anything about the topic, I deleted the window suspecting it might be a hoax.
I'm very suspicious as to why this arrived before the news broke.

Do you mean the browser choice window?

This was shipped out as a "update about 4 or 5 days ago. I certainly got it last week sometime.
Anyway, why do you say "MS Ploy" ?

Microsoft have been directed to do this by the European Union to give people the choice to use other browsers and not just Internet Explorer.

The point was that the MS message arrived on my screen a couple of days before the announcement was given publicity on the radio. No problem for technophiles, but in my book, a ploy.
Anyhow I now see that an icon is on my desktop so there's another chance.
