I've been told that GBA games are 'region-free' so you could buy them in America and they'll play on a UK GBA console.  However, on US websites GBA games are described as being NTSC format so would they work on my UK Gameboy Advance?  Thanks

Yes, they'll work. I have bought US games before their UK release date, and they work fine in myUK gameboy. The NTSC is a complete red herring, it only applies to games machines which connect to a TV.

The same is also true of the upcoming Nintendo DS (dual screen) console not yet out in the UK.

The same is true of the upcoming Nintendo DS hand held console, currently available in the US and Asia.
