My Sky service says I need a phoneline connection for the full range of services. What extra services am I missing? It works anyway with basic services,.
My phone's socket is on the far side of the room. Is it possible to have a wireless connection to the box?Or do I have to use many metres of extension cable or have another socket installed ?

I think what they mean is, you cant check your Sky account or book live sport events etc through the TV because you don't have cable to your telephone line.
You need a double telephone extension cable to plug in to socket and TV, they cost about £5.
You won't be able to use any of the interactive services, or sky box-office.

depending on the type of sky box you have and how long you've held the contract you may also be breaking the terms and conditions of your contract by not having it connected to the phone line
My Sky installation Engineer connected me up with a Phone Line which I have left unconnected. As ChuckFickens says, you do not get interactive services but it is not a problem, and if I decide to connect it to Telephone socket in future then I can do so.
If I wish to upgrade or downgrade Sky services in the future then I can do so on Line or over the Phone.
Sky would like everyone connected up to Phone Line as they will then try and sell you their Broadband Package, but I am quite happy with BT at present.
I don't think you're missing much. I had Sky connected without a phone line, (they didn't like it but wasn't paying for a BT line to be installed as well as Sky) and the only things I couldn't access were the interactive services. I could still ring them and order pay per view events.

Thanks, all. I won't bother, in that case.
I have some difficulty recording programmes.I wondered if that was related
I don't think Sky are going to cancel a contract and wave goodbye to Heaven knows how much each month for their full package, just for my not using all the services I'm paying for or an improved chance of selling me something else (but you never know with them ! They haven't raised it when I've paid by phone )
