Resetting hard drive partition tables

I have a hard drive which had an OEM partition, using up space that I wanted to recover and used PTEDIT32.exe to get rid of it. Unfortunately, although I was able to free the space, I seem to have altered the partition tables in such a way that I cannot make the disk bootable.

The disk in question is a quantum fireball LCT 15 (30GB) and wondered if anyone knows how to select the correct values, using the aforementioned software. I can boot to the disk via a floppy boot disk but wish to avoid having to do this.

Anyone ??

What OS are you trying to get it to boot into?

Windows XP
I take it it was previously bootable then?

If you have a windows xp CD then boot from that, select recovery console when you get the chance, once in the console (looks like a dos prompt) type "fixmbr" and hit enter.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, it was previously bootable.

I'll give the repair console a try and report back the result.

Sadly, that did not work. However, I have now installed the disk as a backup to my existing hard drive and amended my boot.ini file to show the 'faulty' drive in the boot menu. When I now select the 'faulty' drive from the boot menu, it boots OK.
