i am thinking of getting a notebook rather than a lap top

other than maybe not having a dvd player what are the other drawbacks?

basically just want to use it to go online

if anything speed is the only requirement

but dont want to be spending loads!

You are getting your terms muddled up a notebook and a laptop are the same thing.

You mean a netbook.

The main downsides of them are small screen and slightly small keyboard, also depending which one you get some have limited storage on them as they don't have a hard drive in them (those ones have a internal flash drive for storage) they also have processors that are designed to be low power rather than speed so they are not as quick as a proper laptop, but as long as you keep the OS fairly clean (if it's a windows one) they are quick enough.

and thany you twatski

i wll look at an eee one

where? and how much can i expect to pay??
yep OS is operating system, mine came with windows installed on it (which I quickly removed and installed Linux) others come with differing versions of linux already on them. if you are used to windows and don't feel comfortable changing then make sure you get a windows one.

Mine was £249 from a local Bennets shop and it's got a 160GB hard drive in it.

I personally wouldn't get one with less than a 10inch screen

the smaller the screen the smaller the keyboard will be for a start.

I can't find one for £149 on PC worlds website so have no idea which one it would be.

it is in the daily mail today

its a dell 9 8.9" intel atom processer windows xp home 1gb memory

any good ??? apart from size of screen / keyboard!
personally I wouldn't get one, I'd spend the little extra and get one with a slightly larger screen and therefore keyboard too. but that is personal preference, your best bet is go into a shop and have a look at them and see if you think you'd be comfortable typing on the smaller one.

I also don't think the dell mini9 at that price will have a hard drive in it, so it will have very limited storage space.

if you goto pcworlds website, click netbooks at the top of the page and then on refurbished netbooks they have some quite good deals

I'd go for this one
