Read Error on camera

Hoping someone can help? My camera says 'read error' when I try to look at my photos. Anyone know what this is and how I get rid of it. I've lost half my Christmas photos!

a virtual desktop 'safe'...is there such a thing?

Are they stored on a removable card? Take card to Boots to see if it can be read.

Yes they are - I have tried using my card reader and viewing them on the computer but no joy :(
