The serial port has a 8250A UART. What are the main reasons why a modem might not work/  (Select all that apply)  A. I/O address conflict  B.  IRQ conflictr  C. DMA conflict  or D.  PnP jumper off while running a PnP BIOS???

Well it won't be IRQ as the serial ports have their own (COM 1 =4, COM 2 = 3). I think they have their own I/O address ranges as well (03F8-03FF and 02F8-02FF) so I would say C and maybe D. Do I win a prize?
As far as I know, UARTs don't use DMA so I'd say D.  Non PnP hardware can still run with a PnP BIOS.
D'oh... reread the question.  So  from my reasoning C (just read, 8250 doesn't support DMA, 16550 and above does) and D are elminiated.  A and B could be possibilities as they can be changed.
