Copy Contents of iPod to iTunes on New Laptop

I have installed iTunes on my new laptop, but i can\'t transfer music from my iPod to the iTunes library. I get a dialogue box warning \"do you want to sync\", if you do the contents of your iPod will be erased. Is there any way of getting round this problem? Thanks to anyone who can help.

you cant download songs from ipod to laptop unless they were purchased on the ipod via the itunes store.
You need to copy the itunes folder across using a firewire cable from your other computer.

You can actually. Do a Google search for 'Senuti' (itunes backwards). It allows you to transfer your ipod songs to your laptop.

i don't understand why you cant do this
ive 3 mp3 players and they show up in my computer i just copy and paste them to and from any other mp3 or pc, what the prob with these overrated i pods

Apple doesn't want you to get stuff off your ipod, only onto it. Probably to prevent filesharing as otherwise it would be a doddle to nick all of your mate's music just by dragging and dropping.

As snags said, there are ways round it. Yamipod is another free program that will let you do this.
