saving music file

I have found a copyright/royalty free music site that lets you dowload various music tracks, my problem is when I click on ''download song'' instead of asking me where I want to save it for some reason it opens and PLAYS in windows media player, I would turn off media player if I could but am newish to computers and have not got a clue, but that still does not explain why I cant save the track in my music folder.

right click on the download link and select "save link as" (or similar, depending on what browser you use)
