i may need to invest in one of the above in the near future for my son.

he will need it for college so will run some apps such as editing software so i assume a laptop is the way to go but i like the look of netbooks. the ones i have looked at are similarly specced to the laptop i have singled out ie 2g RAM, 160g HDD but obviously have smaller screens.

are netbooks literally just for surfing or can the be used to good effect for running apps?

Thanks.

Remember netbooks dont come with a DVD drive built in, you have to use an external one if you want to install software or watch films from DVD.

Most of the CPUs in netbooks are not up to the power of CPUs in laptops either.

Keyboards and Screens are smaller as well.

Really just for people surfing on the move.
think of the name ... you've actually answered your own question - he needs a laptop
This question has been asked before and the response from Netbook owners has been exemplary. HOWEVER..I bought an Acer One some months ago and I have regretted it ever since.
My main complaint is that the keyboard is so small, that it is easy to miss the correct keys and it is not until you get to the end of the paragraph that your realise that you have deleted the previous one....bl00dy infuriating.

If you intend to type more than a quick answer to AB or an email to your mistress.........then get a laptop.
