watch hdtv via blue ray player

Are you able to watch hd on your hd ready tv by connecting a sky+ box to a blu ray player and then onto your tv...without having a hd box that you have to subscribe to.
I already pay the full sky tv subs, and am loathed to pay additional subs just to get a better picture.

Freesat is a one off payment for a box which you can then watch BBCHD and ITVHD channels. It does not get any of the Sky HD channels.

I got SKY when they nicked LOST off terrestrial television. I have now cancelled it and download HD films and television on this

Thanks for that Gromit, a little more in depth than Ethels answer. I dont want to come across as someone who is trying to get somehing for nothing, as i already subscribe to the full sky package and have done for many years, as well as getting my broadband and phone from them. It annoys me that they seem to throw all kinds of sweetners to get the public onto sky , but nothing for loyal longstanding subsscribers.

You obviously don't,how can you expect to receive H/D channels if you are not willing to pay for them?
I hve Sky H/D & the picture reception is well worth paying for

I think that these days the upgrade price for Sky HD is pretty much the cheapest way you'll do it - i think it's still only �49 (I think that virgin are matching that now, but haven't checked). I initially bought freesat saying that I was fed-up with Sky - tried it for a few weeks and then gave in. There is a lot to be said for free stuff, but there is also a lot to be said for paying for things that work, and Sky HD is one of those things (in my estimation).
