Is the speed gained by moving the paging file to another drive and/or tweaking it , worth the effort for an average user such as myself?

Vista home premium , 2GB ram

You won't notice a huge difference, but in my opinion it is worth doing, especially if the second drive is faster than the main one.

External drive is 54oo rpm same as laptop , I believe
ohhh, hold on..... external drive???

No don't put your paging file on an external hard drive.... that's asking for problems!

It's an external drive that's permanently connected to my laptop , but I get your point Chuck don't panic .
