Every time I start my PC(it runs on windows XP) a window automatically opens displaying the leters "dwn" when I click on the X to close the window its say's ok but then reopens the same window eight times before I can start my internet connection. This takes at least 5 mins before I can start with my connection .

It sounds like a piece of adware that is trying to download something to your pc. Run AdAware and see if that solves it. Info on why the window pops up can be found here http://msdn.microsoft.com/workshop/author/om/popup_overview. asp
