R4DS card not working properly

I have bought a r4ds card for my daughter. It didn't have the cd rom with it so I have downloaded the latest kernel 1.18. Even though the system folder is showing DS-MENU-DAT when I turn the DS on it says cannot find-DS-MENU.DAT. Does anyone know what I am doing wrong?
