Hi,
I connect to Wanadoo/Orange with an old email address, ie.. [email protected].
Although I can receive emails using outlook express, I can no longer send them.
The orange site tells me to use smtp.orangehome.co.uk as my server, but it dosn't work. I just get an error that Outlook Express cannot log onto the server.
Does anyone know the correct server, as Orange don't seem to.
Thanks in advance...badlad

This is a bit of guesswork but it's based on using an email service where the domain name in email address is not the same as the domain name used by the sending server :

(1) Check whethe the user name is correctly completed. With most email accounts, only the part before the '@' is used as the username. (In your example, the username would be 'me'). However, where various domain names are in use, it's common to use the full email address as the username. (In your example, the username would be [email protected].).

(2) Where the domain name of the email address is not the same as the domain name used by the server, it's common to require 'authentication' for outgoing mail. Go to Tools > Accounts > Mail. If you've got more than one email account, click on it to highlight it. Click Properties > Servers. Click to place a tick alongside 'My server requires authentication'. Click 'Apply' and 'Ok'.

Hello Chris,
Thanks for the info,
I have tried different servers ie. wanadoo.co.uk. and username.fsnet.co.uk; All work for receiving but not sending. I've tried various versions of entering the username, which causes problems in receiving the mail.
I've tried auth.smtp and the like which don't work either.
On contacting Orange by phone, they insist on smtp.orangehome.co.uk and tell me the others won't work.
I wonder if they support "fsnet.co.uk" for remote access, although I have no problems accessing email through their website.
I know its not my pc as orange suggest as I have various accounts both with 1and1 and btinternet which work well.

Thanks neildownx,
I'm sure Orange are blocking my access to their email server as I can access them on their website. The pc logs onto Orange Pay as you Go and is set to send emails using smtp.orangehome.co.uk as the Orange helpline told me. Orange also have a recovery program I ran from their website which sets up emails automatically, It sets up everything as its supposed to be, but it don'tt work. After waiting for 46minutes on the phone Orange tell me everything is setup ok and it must be my pc.
I fail to see that its my pc as I can log onto other email accounts with no problems.
Using the orange site wouldn't be a problem if I could receive broadband, but their webpages are designed for broadband and take forever to load.
