Hello,

I have had a Motorola mobile for as long as I can remember. My phone died a few weeks ago and it's beyond repair and have been given a Nokia 6300 as a replacement by the insurers.

I'm assuming that the basic functions are the same across all Nokia's, so can someone please help me with the following (so far):

1. After I have hit the send on a text message, the message I wrote is still displayed on the screen (rather than defaulting back to the messaging folder). Why is it doing that? I don't need to see what I've just sent. Can I make it so it automatically defaults to the messages folder after I've sent?

2. When a receive a new message, it displays on the screen '1 new message', can I change that to include who it's from in the alert?

3. When I'm typing a text, how do I get it to do a capitol letter (I not i) in the middle of a sentence without messing about with menu's?

4. I've inserted my Micro SD from my last phone (after assurances from Vodafone that it will work), but I can't seem to access the information on it (i.e. I want to change my ringing tone to one that's been saved on my card, I have picture I want to use as the wallpaper etc)

Help will be very much appreciated :o)

hello ;)

1, nope, nokias have always done that.

2, again nope.

3, i's hash (#) to swap the predictive messaging between small and capitol letters

4, the card will work but the folder structure is different so the nokia doesn't know where to find the stuff, if you have a USB lead or card reader connect it to your lappy copy all the stuff off the card reformat the card in the nokia and then put the files back in the correct folder (i.e. pics in pictures etc)

it's a pain I know :(

Hello :o)

I'm due for an upgrade in January, I think I might go back to Moto....

If a message is in the outbox, it hasn't sent and is 'pending', if it's in sent box, it's been sent, is this correct? After I've sent a message and my message is still displayed to me (how daft is that), do I just hit the red button to exit with no ill effects to sending the message? Do Nokia expect you to scroll right to the bottom of a jackanorie message to see who it's from?
LOL

Yes you are correct, a message in the outbox is pending, or ini the precess of being sent and you can just hold the red button at this point to quit back to the normal screen and the message will still go.

I'm sure my old nokias either used to take me to the inbox so I could see who the message was from and not just open the message straight away! or displayed the name at the top of the message... i've not had a nokia for a few years now though! (other than a work phone, which I only ever got texts on from one strange person, so don't recall:))

Nokias used to be good but the more basic ones have been long overtaken by other makes (Sony are great :)

A-ha! It does show at the top who it's from, thank you :o)

The insurance gave me a choice of 2 Sony models, a Nokia and a Moto. The Moto offered was a V9 (I think) but it was HUGE! I told the assistant I wanted a phone that would take my memory card and she said that Sony have their own cards and mine wouldn't work, hence the Nokia.

BTW, last phone had water damage to it, I don't understand that, I've never dropped it in water.
Been out in the rain with it maybe?

Yes sony do take their own brand of card, I have a few 1gb ones kicking about in a drawer!

she was right that the micro SD card you have will work in the nokia but it won't know where to find everything currently on it as it's looking in different places then the moto would have stored them

it should be possible to sort it out if you have a card reader that the phone card will fit in.

I do have a card reader. Many thanks for your help.....watch this space for more daft questions LOL
Did you not get a manual with the 'phone? I can only tell you of item 3. Click the hash # button when you are writing text and you will see the options come up in the top right hand corner (well it does on mine) to show all capitals; first letter capital and then lower case; all lower case; and finally numbers only.
I would suggest you log onto Nokia web site and you will get all the answers you need plus, you can also get updates for the phone software to instal via your PC. B.
