connect to the home hub using the yellow wire (it doesn't need to be connected to the phone line for this, so move it if you have to)

type http://bthomehub.home/ into the address bar of your browser and login, the username is admin and the password is (depending on your version) either also admin or it is the serial number of the hub which is on a sticker on the bottom

Once logged in find the setup page for the wireless access point and make sure that

Wireless is enabled
change the network name (ssid) to anything you want (this the the name the hub broadcasts publicly so DO NOT use your password.
Set the security to WPA-PSK
enter a network key, this is a password, it can be anything you want, make it secure!

Save all settings and disconnect the yellow wire, search for wireless networks and you should see one that matches the SSID you typed in earlier, try to connect to that and you will be prompted to enter the network key that you entered, type that in and you should be connected by wireless.
is your friend's machine 802.11n capable?

if not you need to knock it down to b, g or b/g
or get an n dongle
here we go again .... how come my answer is shorter but yours is first ..... ????
LOL, I type fast :)

Though AC does make a good point that I forgot, if your computer is not 802.11n enabled change the interface type to 802.11b/g on the setup page I described above.
