I have an appointment with the dentist tomorrow morning.
The good thing is, is that there is nothing particularly wrong with my teeth at the moment.
So,I'm hoping it will be just a routine check-up,and that my dentist won't find anything wrong.
I try to floss my teeth every other day, and I brush my teeth about twice a day, to make sure I don't get halitosis (bad breath). As it happens,I rarely get bad breath.
I occasionally get it if I have a cold.
I feel better when I know that my teeth are in good nick.
But, I find that the painful part of going to the dentist is paying for the treatment. My dentist is private,so I even have to pay for a check-up which I think is unfair.
I'm pretty sure he rakes in the money from his patients every week!!Even my mum who lives in her 80's has to pay.I think OAP's should have a concession charge,or have it free!!
It would be good if the government stepped in and made all private dentists reduce their charges.
Anyway,I have taken a day off work tomorrow.

Hi Imhotep,

I went for my check-up last week and paid 16.20. I've joined a dentist surgery that is private but has an NHS dentist working there as well.

I used to able to get my teeth cleaned a few years ago for an extra 10 but now I have to book an appointment with a hygenist and pay 45 in advance.
I went to my dentist 6 weeks ago and he spotted a problem on my tongue and referred me to the hospital and i had a consultation within a week and just over a week ago had a small procedure, he's probably spotted something early enough for it to be nothing to worry about, I paid 16.20 and it was probably worth a million quid!!!!!
Nice one Dot :-)
I'm sure that you can get a check-up on the NHS Imhotep, but they'll still charge you for it unless you're out of work. Think of it as money well spent though hun, because there's nothing worse than people with bad teeth. x
Dot - I don't know when you posted about your problem, but I heard about it. You're so right about that small amount being worth more than a million pounds, and I hope you continue to be OK. x

Does anyone think that 16.20 is a lot to pay for.

I think that charge doesn't sound too bad.
It would be nice if my fee comes to about that amount.
It seems just about right I think!!

You must be telepathic Ice.You posted at the same time as me at 23.08.
That is amazing eh?
Anyway,as you say,it will be money well spent.
I totally agree with you hun.
Thanks for your comment.
No - it's a meagre amount to pay, once every six months. My parents are in their 60's and still have their own teeth, but it's only because they always looked after them. Hope I'll do the same.
It is a reasonable price for an NHS check up if you're working. It only gets expensive if you need treatment even on the NHS.

Ooh,I forgot to tell you all, that my dentist sees me once annually!
It used to be every 6 months.I suppose each dentist has their own plans or something.
But,if there is an emergency or something you can still make an appointment.
Is it not possible for you to be an NHS patient imhotep?

I know that my dentist has private and also NHS patients and we get the same treatment.Has to be said though that some people had no option but to go private when the NHS list was closed for years.

My current bill -as an NHS patient will be 150 -but that includes a replacement crown so its not always the cheap option to be NHS.

Well worth every penny though in my opinion and to Dot -I echo TB -good result.Hope you continue to feel better -bet you got the shock of your life but by the looks of things you didnt have much time to think about it.

Thanks for your comments Drisgirl.
I don't think it's possible for me to become an NHS dental patient. There is an NHS dental surgery where I live, but I'm pretty sure that he won't take any more patients,as he is coping with far too many patients as it is.There was a huge queue one day, when he first became an NHS dental surgery.
But,at the moment I'm fairly happy with the private dentist I got now. Thanks anyway!!
I don't think OAPs should get concessions, unless they have a low income, in which case they do get concessions already.

We're not all hard up, you know. :)

I went to the dentist today. It was my second appointment in a run of 4 for root canal fillings. Check up, xrays and all the work for around 45. That is not bad at all. I am very lucky to have an excellent NHS dentist.
lucky u imhotep!

me hate dentist. i was lucky that i was a student when i had my teeth filled with fillings 6 of then, if it was private it would have cost me around 450+ but i only ended up paying 50! phew.

but i dont think my teeth likesme. =( they are not wonky or anything.. just very delicate :(

u say your teeth are perfect... well not in such words but if u have striaght teeth.. does that mean u have nice teeth and nice smile ;) (wink wink ) xx
i know that there is a difference between the products the private dentists use on their private patients and the products the NHS dentosts use on their NHS patients, but no difference in the treatment.
