importing thunderbird mail to gmail

The easiest thing to do is go into Gmail's help, and read how to set up IMAP with Gmail in Thunderbird.
Then (presuming that you can already use your old account in thunderbird too), you'll have two accounts set up in thunderbird, each with their separate inboxes etc. in the left pane.
Simply highlight all your emails from the old account and drag across to Gmail's All Mail folder. Wait a while for it to complete.
